The Future Lab is a continuation of the series of experimental labs by Maurer United, each with a focus on cultural innovation in spatial practice. See a selection of initiatives below.

International Learning Lab

The 'International Learning Lab' (ILL) was founded by Maurer United to support the development of young talents within the creative industry. ILL operates internationally and across disciplines — fully cross-border.

L’EAU

The 'Laboratory of European Architecture and Urbanism' (L’EAU) is a research consortium established by RWTH Aachen, Maurer United and Reicher Haase Assoziierte. The team works on a continuous agglomeration plan between the Meuse and the Rhine.

Stichting Street Art

The 'Street Art Foundation' (SSA) was initiated to support the municipality of Heerlen in its rebranding efforts. Over the past decade, more than 75 murals have been placed throughout the city centre. Marc Maurer has served as a board member since its founding.

SUPERLOCAL CIRCULAR BUILDING

The project ‘Superlocal’ was set up as a pioneering project in relation to the theme of ‘Circular Building’. 125 new homes were built with the ambition to reuse only materials, which were released during the demolition of 400 homes on site.

Embracing Exchange

‘Embracing Exchange’ was founded by Maurer United to connect artists and designers — in art, jewellery, fashion, interior design, graphic design and architecture — from Cologne, Southern Limburg and Eindhoven. The project led to ten different exhibitions.

Dutch Design Exchange

The 'Dutch Design Exchange' (DDX) foundation was initiated by Maurer United in 2012. The organisation helps Dutch designers to work across the borders into Germany and Belgium. Many (travelling) exhibitions were developed by DDX.

Baltan Laboratories

'Baltan Laboratories' was founded in 2008 by Maurer United, Telcosystems and digital artist Geert Mul. Based in Eindhoven, this laboratory for art and technology develops pioneering projects with leading artists and scientists.

Fashion & Architecture

Nicole Maurer Lemmens dedicated her Master’s thesis to the cross-over between architecture and fashion. Years later, she collaborated with Farida Sedoc to further explore the topic, resulting in several publications and exhibitions.
Inconstruct

Inconstruct

The 'INConstruct' team was established in 1998 by Maurer United, artist Boris Tellegen (DELTA) and graffiti artist ZEDZ. The team experiments in the field of typographic space — or spatial typographics.
